There was a PS.

PS. Forgot to say, Dennis had wads of cash in his glove compartment.

Phoebe messaged back urgently:

Does it have pink edges?

But Juno didn’t reply. Mil sent an encouraging gif of Jim Carey’s The Mask character waving fans of dollars around, which she wasn’t sure helped.

When there was no reply from Juno after an hour, Phoebe turned off her phone, half suspecting the glovebox cash story was a wind-up. All this sleuthing – which had originally been Juno’s idea, after all – was starting to feel a bit fruitless.

The ‘Wexshire’s top crime writer’ hyperbole had also pricked Phoebe’s conscience. Back on her laptop, she tried to focus on Holly Meadowfield’s life-threatening plight, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Si and his stolen art, cash and life.

It was time to fast forward from eighties car chases to today’s superhighway. If Mil could do it, Phoebe could. She logged into Google, an action so rare these days it demanded two-stage authentication and a Captcha traffic light test before she could look up Davis and Locke Antiques.

The shop’s website was super-slick, feeding its high-res pictures to a cornucopia of social media accounts. Porcelain-heavy, lustrous with twenty-year-old shots of Oscar looking like a fake-tanned Tommy Shelby, it was curiously devoid of modern art.

She picked up the business card Si had given her, still lying in amongst her notes and receipts.
